EXCURSIONS

We begin our journey in a vehicle departing from Ponta do Sol, a picturesque town in the northernmost part of Santo Antão, located in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Livramento in the Ribeira Grande municipality. This town, once known as Vila de Maria Pia in honor of the Queen of Portugal, Maria Pia de Saboia, provides the perfect starting point for our adventure.

Our first stop takes us to the charming village of Fontaínhas, with its lush landscapes and a black sand beach at the entrance of Cruzinha, known as Praia das Aranhas. From July to October, this area is a prime spot for observing sea turtles nesting, offering a unique and thrilling experience for visitors. From the village of Cruzinha, the trek continues on zigzagging trails, immersing us in the island’s natural beauty with stunning views of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. This journey provides a unique experience, allowing us to explore hidden secrets and local charms along the way.

To recharge, we’ll enjoy an authentic traditional lunch in the village of Formiguinhas, served in a family-run restaurant, where you can savor local flavors and experience the traditional cuisine of Santo Antão.

This exciting excursion lasts 5 hours, covering approximately 12 kilometers through the island’s stunning landscape. A professional guide will be on hand to accompany you and enrich your experience with local information and stories.
