EXCURSIONS

Day 1
Depart from the Paul Valley by taxi or public transportation towards Penedo, a picturesque fishing village known for its religious festivities and historical heritage. Along the way, stop at Boca da Ribeira to visit a grogue distillery, the traditional Cape Verdean rum. In Penedo, walk to Ribeira Penedo to explore the mysterious Pedra de Letreiro, an ancient inscription whose origin is debated. During the journey, you’ll also see one of the tunnels that facilitate the transport of agricultural products and provide quick access between localities.
This tour can be done with or without a guide, according to the visitors’ preference. Enjoy a typical lunch in a family-run restaurant.

Day 2
Visit the Fontes Pereira de Melo Lighthouse (Farol de Boi or Farol de Tumba), named after its proximity to the Boi islet. To reach the lighthouse, you need to climb a staircase; the lighthouse was once an important navigation tool marking the northern entrance of the São Vicente channel. The lighthouse offers an excellent spot for taking photos of the landscape.
